# How are sanctions lists compared?

Sanctions lists do not offer the same scope, fields or update method. Evaluate source selection not only by record count but by your institution's activity and the regimes that apply to it.

## Scope and data fields

A source covering persons, entities, vessels or other record types calls for different checks. Compare the availability of name, identity details, programme and a link back to the source.

## Freshness and identifiers

Separate the time the source was updated from the time the product ingested the data. In the United Kingdom, as of 28 January 2026 the UK Sanctions List is the single current source of designations; the former OFSI Consolidated List is no longer updated. The need to map historical identifiers to the current source is handled separately.

## Procurement questions

Ask which sources are used, in which version and with which update approach. Verify any "global coverage" claim against a matrix of lists and data fields. Examine how duplicates are handled when the same record appears in several sources.
