# What is MiCA? How does it differ from the Travel Rule?

MiCA is part of the EU crypto-asset regulatory framework. It is not the same text as the TFR, which governs information requirements for crypto transfers.

## Separate the scope

The type of crypto-asset and the service activity affect which requirements need assessment. A generic "MiCA compliant" label does not explain these distinctions.

## Relationship with the TFR

TFR 2023/1113 contains the rules on transfer information and has applied since 30 December 2024. Do not describe Travel Rule integration as a single feature of MiCA.

## Product evaluation

Ask the product provider to explain which control supports which need. Licensing, governance and institutional obligations are not completed with a single screening or messaging API.
